Meet Dan Macaya

Dan Macaya ~ Macaya has played soccer since he was 4 years old. He started competitive soccer with Carlsbad Rangers, which turned into Westside Metro Rangers. Macaya moved to Camas, WA at the age of 12 and joined Evergreen Select Fireballs. During his U14 year, Dan Captained the Fireballs to the Commissioner's Cup State Championship, which qualified them for regional championships of the MLS Kellogg's Cup. The following year, Macaya made the move to Premier soccer. He played two seasons with Columbia Premier Soccer Club, coached by Joe Frimpong and Sunny Dulai before transferring to Lake Oswego Soccer Club. He played for Greg Maas, Steve Studley and Gary Osterhage among others while at LOSC. His final year of club he was picked up to play with Federal Way United Bullets. During his years of club soccer Dan guest played with various teams from around the country in national and international tournaments. He was also a two-year member of the Washington State Olympic Development Program. In high school, Macaya was a 4-year varsity starter at Camas High School.

Macaya earned First Team All League status three times (Fr. So. Sr., injured Jr.), a two-time All Region player, and earned First Team All-State his senior year. Camas went 73-7-3 in his four-year stint. He tallied 69 goals and 35 assists. CHS captured four league titles, three district titles, a third place finish in state his Jr. season and a second place finish in state his senior year. He was voted Most Outstanding Offensive player his senior year as well as Captain and Most Inspirational his Jr. and Sr. years. Many colleges and universities on the west coast, as well as schools in the mid west and a few in the east recruited Macaya. He chose to attend Western Washington University for their Woodring College of Education. He attended WWU for two and half years (played two NCAA DIV II seasons) before transferring to NAIA Northwest Region power, Concordia University in Portland, Oregon.


Macaya has been a coach and trainer in southwest Washington since 2003. He has coached and trained players within CWSC, CPSC, FCSC, Eastside United and Washington Soccer Academy among others. In 2010, Macaya served as the Director of Technical Training and as the Assistant Director of Coaching for Washington Soccer Academy.  Dan currently holds his NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma, his National D License, and is planning to obtain his National C License. Dan earned his Bachelors of Arts in Education with a K-8 endorsement from Concordia University. He has always had a knack for helping youngsters improve, whether in the classroom or on the soccer field. Dan works at Liberty Middle School in the Camas School District as a Health teacher. Dan spent time as an Assistant Coach to Jason Moore (Concordia University) within Columbia Premier Soccer Club (currently Washington Timbers) at the U16 age group in 2008.  During the 2009/2010 season, Macaya co-coached the U12 boys and girls Premier A teams within WSA with Ross Blanchard (former WSA Director of Technical Training).  Dan now coaches club at FC Salmon Creek as the Head Coach of the 02 and 98 girls age groups. His 98 team is ranked top 5 in Washington state and won college showcases including Northwest Showcase of Champions and Pleasanton Rage College Showcase in California.  During the past four years, Macaya has been the Junior Varsity Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach to Roland Minder at the state powerhouse, Camas High School. Camas won the 3A State Championship in 2011. In September 2014, Macaya was inducted into the Camas High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his efforts in the classroom, on the pitch and in the community.
